Assistant Controller - Richmond, VA - $75k-$85k

Vaco is assisting a reputable, stable organization based in Richmond, VA with its search for an Assistant Controller. This is a newly created position due to growth and it will report directly to the Controller and work closely with executive management.


  • Lead month-end close activities for entity including overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Preparing and interpreting key statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flow.
  • Perform Investment accounting for Current and Endowment Funds
  • Review accounting processes and implement process improvements and efficiencies
  • Assist with budget preparation, review budget proposals, and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets.
  • Work with Controller to ensure proper internal controls are in place
  • Assist with treasury and cash management functions

  • Review of monthly revenues and costs and research variances
  • Research and recommend proper accounting treatment on new/proposed accounting standards.
  • Serve as liaison with independent auditors during annual audit, mid-year review, and interim procedures.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting, financial reporting and financial analysis experience
  • Strong technical accounting and analysis skills
  • Experience working with ERP/General Ledger systems
  • Strong understanding of accounting processes and ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Investment/Fund accounting experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
